This Holiday everyone needs some extra cheer! Brighten up friends and family’s window panes with these beautifully jolly plants

What if Christmas he thought, “doesn’t come from a store, what if it means a little bit more!” The Grinch was onto something here. This Holiday, our friends at Bethany Farm and Nursery have given us some Holiday plants that’ll make for a thoughtful gift. This season let loved ones know you’re thinking of them!

Poinsettia

Poin-se-ttia with your leaves so bright, won’t you guide our gifts tonight. A Holiday classic! The Poinsettia plant goes hand in hand with A Christmas Story. When you think Christmas plant, you think Poinsettia, and when you think Christmas movie, you think A Christmas Story. When choosing this jolly red plant, make sure you choose one with yellow buds in the center or small yellow flowers, this ensures it’ll last through the season. To care for a Poinsettia plant, make sure water does not pool at the bottom to avoid root rot. Although this plant is associated with winter, it can get frostbite quickly. Make sure it’s covered in cool temperatures, even when bringing it inside in the brief trip from your car (or sleigh) to the house!

Orchid

This is a beautiful Holiday plant to let people know you’re thinking of them. Be careful when transporting- it’s Fra-GEE-Lay! The White Orchid represents respect and love, perfect for that family member you might not be able to see this year. To care for an orchid, make sure they get bright, yet indirect lighting. Water once a week, and look for an orchid fertilizer to promote growth and budding.

Christmas Cactus

Ever wondered what Old Saint Nick’s summer home looks like? Well, it’s covered in Christmas Cacti! This warm loving plant lasts for several years with the right care. The bright green cactus grows red flowers giving it the perfect Holiday look. Water lightly a couple of times a week, making sure the bottom of the pot has holes so the water doesn’t pool inside. Prune the cactus right after it blooms, this promotes growth and will even speed up the growing process.

Rosemary

Oh, Tannenbaum! Oh, Tannenbaum! Well, Really it’s Oh, Rosemary! Surprisingly, Rosemary is a very popular holiday gift. The plant grows in the shape of a mini Christmas tree. It emits a fragrant scent sure to fill any home with Christmas cheer. Be sure to water, and let water drain from the bottom of the pot. Make sure to utilize this plant to it’s fullest, trim some Rosemary sprigs for your Holiday cooking or baking. Add to sugar cookie dough, mashed potatoes for the ultimate herby taste, or throw a sprig in a sparkling cranberry cocktail. The possibilities for this useful plant are endless!

Holly

Most people in New England can find Holly in their yard or closeby. These plants grow large and have sharp spikey leaves and red berries, be careful if you’re collecting some sprigs or you’ll poke your eye out! These plants make beautiful wreaths and centerpieces, they’re gorgeous pieces to send to someone’s home to wish them a Holly Jolly Christmas!

Norfolk Pine

I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love… Charlie Brown had the right idea here, these cute little pines look similar to his own little tree. Their small, light, flimsy branches give a sweet and simple Christmas look. These pines cannot weather the cold, so keep them inside when the temperature drops below 35 degrees! Water only when the soil around the base of the tree is dry, do not overwater!

Stressed about finding a gift in time? Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle! Your local grocery store, hardware store, or plant nursery will have these Jolly plants.

As Clark Griswold would say, we hope everyone has the hap-hap-happiest Christmas!
